The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating after the driver of an Acura sedan fled the scene of a crash early Wednesday morning near Eagle Springs.
First responders were dispatched shortly after 7 a.m. to the 4100 block of Bensalem Church Road, about half a mile from the intersection with McDuffie Road. When crews arrived, they found the Acura damaged and abandoned in a wooded area off the roadway.

According to investigators, the driver was heading into a curve at a high rate of speed when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. The driver then overcorrected, causing the sedan to spin sideways across the road and into a tree line, where it struck at least two trees.
Skid marks were left behind on the pavement and extended into the woods where the vehicle came to rest.
No one was with the car when emergency personnel arrived. Law enforcement is working to identify the driver and determine why they left the scene.
