A large shed fire between Carthage and Vass drew a multi-agency emergency response Friday afternoon after a towering plume of smoke was seen for miles.
The fire, reported around 1:30 p.m. on Nubbin Ridge Lane, quickly engulfed a shed filled with vehicles and personal belongings. By the time first responders arrived, the structure was fully involved.

Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue led the response, supported by units from Whispering Pines, Carthage, N.C. Forest Service, Moore County Fire Marshal’s Office, Moore County EMS, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Office. Additional resources—including tankers from Southern Pines and Crains Creek—were brought in due to the scale and intensity of the fire.
Accessing the fire proved difficult, with the structure located in a remote area and far from the nearest fire hydrant. Crews had to shuttle in water using tanker trucks to battle the blaze. Firefighters also had to contend with high afternoon temperatures, which added to the already strenuous conditions on the scene.
The Moore County Fire Marshal’s Office and N.C. Forest Service are investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries were been reported.
